5 Years as Brent's Bride

Today marks the first 'milestone anniversary' that Brent and I have shared as husband and wife. Five years ago, I married the love of my life. Five years!? It seems like yesterday and an eternity all at the same time. I've been reminiscing and thinking on our day this morning. I've been telling Ella stories of the day while showing her our wedding pictures. (Owen's napping). Ella keeps pointing out all of our family members and calling them by name. One of the sweetest moments was when we came across a picture of us dancing on the porch of the L&N, and Ella said, "Mommy and Daddy dancin'!" I wish you could hear the way she said "dancin'."

Our wedding day was one of the best days of my life. I know you're probably thinking that everyone says that, but it truly was like a dream. I would love to have the opportunity to relive that day just as it happened. We were married in the JBC chapel, significant because we met on campus and had our reception at the beautiful L&N Railroad Station- it instantly became one of my favorite places in downtown Knoxville after we went and scoped it out months before. I do wish I would have had more money to decorate and afford a high quality photographer, but those things don't seem to matter as I think back on the day. Our special day, unlike many days leading up to the wedding, turned out carefree and relaxing for me. Yes, I was nervous, but it didn't take too long for that to subside once I made it down the aisle to Brent.

I remember the night before at rehearsal, I cried as we practiced saying our vows. I doubted how I would say them coherently on the day of our wedding.

The morning of the big day, Brent and I met up for breakfast and we cleaned our wedding rings together. We sat on the floor in the kitchen of the trailer that would soon be our first home and talked with my mom and some of my friends for a while. We parted ways to get ready for the wedding as the next time we'd see each other would be as I walked down the aisle.

After he left, I began the process of getting ready. I shaved my legs on the side of the tub before my bridesmaids and I went to the reception site to meet the florist and get the table centerpieces finished. (Although, I should have just showed someone how to do it and then have them do it later in the day because the water ended up turning purple from the calla lilies.) Haha! The bouquets were beautiful! I was very happy with how they turned out!

I picked up my dress from Amy's house that morning too. Even then, I had to hide things from Brent if I didn't want him to see. Oh, I loved my dress! I can't wait until the day I can try it on again. :)

As I was sitting in the waiting room of the hair salon, there was a little boy waiting on his mom and he looked and me and asked what I was doing. I told him it was my wedding day and that I was getting my hair all pretty for my husband-to-be. He then asked if I was going to wear it curly or straight. I told him that I liked my curls and would wear it curly. He said that I shouldn't do that because it wouldn't be pretty! Haha! My mom and I got a good laugh out of it.

After pics, we went back downstairs to wait until it was time to line up and walk down the aisle. One of  my favorite moments was when my dad came down to tell me how beautiful I looked and how proud he was of me. It was so special and made me cry.

I will never forget the look on Brent's face as I walked down the aisle. That is also one of my favorite moments.

Lots of clumsy moments too. I couldn't walk up the steps because one of my hands held Brent's and the other held my bouquet. My dress got caught on my shoes as I tried stepping up and Brent didn't realize what had happened and kept walking. I stumbled a little. I also forgot to grab my bouquet from my sister before Brent and I walked down the aisle as husband and wife.

Our reception was a blast! I wanted a fun celebration with lots of dancing and it turned out perfectly.

I am so thankful for all of our friends and family who helped make our day special. We were surrounded by lots of love and I wouldn't have wanted it any other way.

I am so thankful for the time I've had with my husband over these five years. I'm so thankful to him for staying with me and working at our marriage each day. He makes me a better person in more ways than one. So grateful to God for the many blessings after becoming husband and wife. 5 years, 4 homes, 2 babies, and a move to Memphis later, still so in love with Brent. Here's to at least 80 more anniversaries! :)

Happy Anniversary Brent! Thank you for so many memories over the years. I look forward to the years to come as your Bride. I love you!

Tales of a Dysfunctional Gallbladder

A year ago, I was at Piedmont Fayette Hospital, recovering from surgery. I want to record these events as a reminder of why it is important for me to take care of my body, and hopefully help someone else realize the same before their own health issues become a problem. The new year had just begun, and I'd gone out for coffee earlier in the evening. I'd received some unexpected news, and went to bed not too long after returning home. Soon after getting in bed, I suddenly couldn't get comfortable. I was having pains in my back and right side that were worse than labor pains. This very thing had happened a few times before, but it usually subsided the next morning on those previous occasions. I went downstairs to the couch in an effort to avoid waking everyone. I didn't get any sleep, and I spent much of the night in the bathroom, either getting sick or trying to relieve my pain. I was still in tears once Brent and the kids woke up the next morning. I explained to Brent ...

A Year of Unexpected Surprises

In looking back on this year, I've dubbed it as the year of unexpected surprises. Some of these surprises have been good, others weren't, while still others were somewhere between. I've intended to write down and process each of these, but I haven't gotten around to it. I will start here with the most recent unexpected surprise. My second-born started Kindergarten this year, so I now have two in school! We've had to adjust to a new schedule as there are a couple more subjects in 1st Grade, and then simply adding another child into the schooling mix is a big change! Add in the new and frequent sibling fighting, and it has been a challenge in starting this new year. I *think* we've finally found some sort of a groove and schedule, but time will really tell. Recently, Owen's Kindergarten teacher stepped down as his teacher in order to take on a different job. As a result, the kindergartners are now in the 1st Grade classroom with Ella's class and teache...

More News on Knox

For those of you who have been praying and keeping up with any news about Knox, we have an update. We had another ultrasound last Friday, May 15th. The ultrasound tech reassured us that she couldn't see anything wrong other than the stomach being on the smaller side. Once Dr. Weeks came in, he took another look and was able to see the best view of Knox's stomach he's seen since we started this process with the specialists. He told us that if he had seen this view during our first appointment with him, then we would have never come back for any follow up appointments. He stated that every human is different and Knox may just have a different size and shape stomach than others. Dr. Weeks thinks we can go from here with a normal delivery with my own doctor. He went ahead and scheduled an appointment with the neonatologist as a precaution- in the event anything arises after Knox is born. This past Tuesday, we met with a neonatologist and he discussed the different type of t...
